Q&A With Lim Chun Kiat
1. How did you get involved in cycling?
I used to be a die-hard basketball fan when I was a young teenager. Every day after school, you will see me at the basketball court. At that time, I didn’t have transportation to get there. I was always relying on somebody for a ride or I would just walk the 5km distance. I started to use my sister’s bike without asking her permission each time to travel, until one day the bike was stolen by some dumb friends… haha. Then ever since that day, everything went back to normal. I had no transportation again. To get to the basketball court, I had to walk again. I started saving money from my food allowance for quite a while to just get my own bike. What I remember is that it was like 2 to 3 months of starvation. I think it was a lesson to teach me how to appreciate and not to simply borrow other people’s things. Since having my own bike, I started hanging out with my bicycle shop friends. It was a place that really made me fall in love with cycling, especially mountain biking!
